SIMPLE SELF-CARE TIPS

In my last regular blog post entitled “I Took A Mental Health Day: Here’s Why” I said I would delve into simple self-care tips. In preparing and drafting this blog post, I initially was going to reference specific articles that speak on self-care. However I decided to reference some posts written by bloggers I follow about self-care.

First up we have staceylblogs who wrote “Why Self-Care Isn’t Selfish…It’s Necessary“. In her blog post she shares six self-care tips as well as the benefits of self-care. Next we have Trini Mom in D Middle who shares five self-care mantras in her blog post entitled “Hey There Mom!” Last but definitely not least is mblwrites who wrote “Best Ways to Practice Self Care When You’re Single“. I do hope you enjoy reading those blog posts as much as I did.

I did say I would share some simple self-care tips with you. The idea is to provide some ideas, suggestions, or tips of things that you can do basically anywhere without needing much items or time.

My first tip would be to carve out five minutes from your day and dedicate those five minutes for you. Whether it’s in the morning before everyone is up, during the course of the day, or in the night just before you go to bed – take five minutes to spend with your thoughts and emotions. Use that time to mentally realign yourself.

My second tip and personally one of my favourite activities to do especially when I am feeling stressed out is to close my eyes and take ten deep breaths. It’s a great relaxation technique that can be done almost anywhere.

What is your favourite drink, food, dessert, or treat? Actually think about it. One of my ways to indulge in self-care is to treat myself to one of my favourite drinks or snacks. It actually does not need to be anything fancy or expensive, it could be as simple as a cup of tea.

My next self-care tip is stretching. I found a nice but easy five minute full body stretch to do for my workouts. Stretching helps me ease the tension in my body. So if you can do any form of stretching, yoga, or exercise to help you destress that will be great.

My last self-care tip is to be gentle with yourself and understand it is okay to be selfish sometimes. You cannot pour from an empty cup and speaking from experience you cannot function properly if you’re overworked, exhausted, and burned out. So be gentle with yourself, be selfish with your time, and do not be afraid to say no.

Let me know in the comments what are some of your favourite self-care tips or methods.

THE END
